Chris Holman welcomes Tom Pantlind, President, of the Grand Rapids University Club, Grand Rapids, MI.
Watch Tom and Chris discuss what the Grand Rapids University Club is celebrating and what plans they have for this year, in the YouTube video shared below:
Tom, I understand you are celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the club, and you’re moving! Tell us about that?
What will this allow the club to leverage and expand to in services?
What’s special about the Pen Building?
What are the benefits of joining the University Club?
What are some other aspects of your growth plan for the club?
Can you speak about the reciprocal aspect of the club with other locations like Detroit?
The University Club is celebrating its 100-year anniversary with a move to the historic Pen Building Downtown at 116 and 120 Ottawa Ave. NW. The exclusive club, nestled in the heart of the city, will be returning to the building that was initially built for the Peninsular Club in the early 20th century.
The president of the club, Tom Pantlind, expressed his excitement about this development: “We are excited to elevate our club by leveraging all of the improvements that were made while RDV owned the building and add to it with unique spaces to allow for expansion into a cigar, whiskey bar, tea room, games, board room, etc. These new amenities will foster an environment that increases meaningful dialogue, builds strong relationships, and inspires leaders that will benefit our diverse community for generations to come.”
The University Club offers a variety of amenities to its members, including dining, special member activities, networking opportunities, a speaker series focused on business, history, and education, events space, and a full athletic club. The club has around 345 members currently, and officials hope to grow to about 600 members in the new space.
“We are excited about the new possibilities our move to this historic building will bring,” says Mark Canak, General Manager of the UClub of Grand Rapids. “We look forward to welcoming new members and offering community members a place to call home in our growing city.”
This move will bring together two historic landmarks in Downtown Grand Rapids and allow members access to an enhanced experience while still preserving the tradition they have come to know and love over their many years at its current location at the top of 111 Lyon ST NW.
