Chris Holman welcomes back Scott Weaver, President, and Co-Owner of Douglas J Companies, Okemos, East Lansing, across Michigan, Illinois, Tennessee, and now Nebraska!

Med Spa has been important among your services in recent years, how is that going?

On the Institute/school side; how are the schools? and have Promise Scholarships for students in Michigan made a difference?

Tell us more about services in Nebraska, any other targeted states?

Chris welcomes Scott, co-owner and CEO of Douglas J. Companies, to the Michigan Business Beat. Scott joins the show from Southwest Florida, while Chris is in Michigan dealing with early Spring stormy weather. Scott briefly introduces Douglas J. Companies, explaining that it was founded by his parents in 1967, and he and TJ have been leading the company since around 1995.

Cosmetology Education and Workforce Development

Scott discussed the growth of their company, which now operates in six schools across three states, with the most recent addition in Lincoln, Nebraska. They also have four salons in Michigan. Scott highlighted their commitment to education, training around 1,200 students annually in cosmetology, medical aesthetics, massage therapy, and barbering. They also offer medical treatments and skincare services. Chris acknowledged the company’s success in workforce development and the increasing demand for trade education. Scott agreed, noting an increase in student inquiries and a high placement rate for graduates.

Acquisition and Expansion Plans Discussed

Scott shared more about the  acquisition of a Lincoln, Nebraska business, expanding the company’s presence in college campuses. He also alluded to potential expansion plans. (So, stay tuned)!
