
Mercantile Bank has been awarded Innovator of the Year
LANSING, Mich.- The Michigan Bankers Association (MBA) has awarded Michigan banks for their financial literacy efforts throughout 2021/22 during the annual MBA Bankers Education Summit & Trade Show (BEST) Conference in Traverse City. The awards consisted of the Financial Literacy Award and the Innovator of the Year Award.
The MBA Financial Literacy Award and Innovator of the Year Award recognize member banks for their outstanding work in financial literacy education and community involvement. All banks are encouraged to submit an entry of their financial literacy programs in a detailed outline highlighting what and where the programs took place.
“The MBA is proud to recognize the Financial Literacy Award winners’ commitment to financial literacy. These banks are an example of the type of exemplary work banks do in their communities across Michigan every day,” stated T. Rann Paynter, President and CEO, MBA.
Winners of the 2022 MBA Financial Literacy Awards are Bay Port State Bank, ChoiceOne Bank, Citizens National Bank of Cheboygan, Huron Valley State Bank, Independent Bank, Isabella Bank, Mercantile Bank of Michigan, Range Bank, Sturgis Bank & Trust, Thumb Bank & Trust.
The 2022 MBA Financial Innovator of the Year award went to Mercantile Bank of Michigan. In 2021, Mercantile Bank developed a partnership with Grand Valley State University’s TRIO Program to provide exposure to banking for young adults in the TRIO Upward Bound Program at Grand Valley State University, “GVSU”. The GVSU TRIO Upward Bound Program serves low-income high school students from underserved communities. The GVSU TRIO Upward Bound Program serves 100 high school students in grades 9-12 at Grand Rapids Innovation Central and Union High School. Ninety-five percent of the students in the program are Latinx or African American. Many of the students in the program come from unbanked or underbanked households.
