YOUR RESPONSE IS REQUESTED
DEADLINE: Monday, August 31st

Dear MichBio Community Member,

MichBio has been asked to provide some input at the national level related to commercialization and innovation support programs. So we’re reaching out to the Michigan biosciences community to request your thoughts.

We would like to gain your insights into what are the key factors shaping the efficacy of targeted innovation programs such as the SBIR/STTR programs. Specifically, please provide your guidance on the following:

  • What role do these programs play in the US biotech/health care innovation system?
  • How are SBIR/STTR-funded firms viewed by venture capital, angel investors, and/or large companies?
  • What are some of the key benefits and drawbacks of the SBIR/STTR programs (and how can they be improved)?

Feel free to be as expansive and liberal with the subject matter as you wish. We’re looking to pass along the “good, bad and ugly” of such programs – why our organizations do/don’t take advantage of them, challenges in dealing with the programs either during application or once funded, and the impact of the programs on companies and investment in them.

Many thanks for your help. We appreciate a quick turnaround – deadline is 5 PM on Monday, August 31, 2020.

Sincerely,

Stephen Rapundalo, PhD
President and CEO, MichBio
