2025-26 State Budget Impact on Michigan’s Signature Industry

While a state government shutdown was narrowly avoided and the fiscal year 2025-26 budget has been signed into law, the results have serious consequences for Michigan’s economic competitiveness and the strength of its signature automotive and mobility industry. Several MichAuto advocacy priorities were impacted by either a reduction or cut in this latest budget, and work will need to be done to ensure the industry’s needs are met.

Unite and Innovate, or Be Left Behind

On Oct. 6, in Crain’s Detroit Business, MichAuto’s Executive Director and the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Chief Automotive and Innovation Officer, Glenn Stevens Jr., outlined the need to embrace innovation and what’s at stake for Michigan if the automotive and mobility industry fails to do so.

Stellantis Makes Historic $13B Investment to Grow US Operations

MichAuto investor Stellantis is making a historic $13 billion investment to expand its U.S. manufacturing footprint, creating over 5,000 new jobs across Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana. This investment is the largest in the company’s 100-year history and will support the launch of five new vehicles and significantly boost annual production by 50%, reinforcing Stellantis’ commitment to American growth and innovation.

 A New Multimodal Transportation Hub Announced at Michigan Central Innovation District

MDOT, the City of Detroit, and Michigan Central have signed a memorandum of understanding to initiate a $40 million project for a new multimodal transportation hub within the Michigan Central Innovation District. This hub aims to enhance connectivity across the region, support economic opportunities, and modernize outdated transit infrastructure. It will feature a new passenger rail and intercity bus transit station.

Connecting Educators With Real-World STEM Experiences

Last month, MAHLE hosted a tour for educators from Wayne State University and Oakland County during the Square One Education Network’s Computer Science Industry Experience event.
