The Latest on the Impact of Trade Dispute Delays

The Trump administration’s Aug. 1 deadline for reciprocal tariffs passed with a variety of major U.S. trading partners having already reached new trade agreements.

However, significant countries still without a deal include Canada, Mexico, and China, with current tariff rates being extended with both China and Mexico. The unresolved trade disputes with Mexico and Canada disproportionately affect Michigan, requiring an urgent resolution to protect jobs in the Detroit Region.

 

Creating a Space for Interns to Connect and Learn in Detroit

On July 24, 30 interns from MichAuto investor companies came together for a day of networking, professional development, and more. The students embarked on a tour of Detroit, visiting the city’s newest innovation hubs: Michigan Central and Newlab. Then the students participated in a Lunch and Learn with executives sharing their career journeys, and concluded with “lightning labs” with members of MichAuto’s Talent and Awareness Committee that prepared them with critical career skills.

Michigan Technological University Research Institute Recognized for Driving Economic Growth

On July 4, MichAuto Executive Director and Chief Automotive and Innovation Officer of the Detroit Regional Chamber Glenn Stevens Jr. visited Michigan Technological University Research Institute (MTRI) in Ann Arbor during a tour for Michigan Congressional staff of the state’s four R1 universities.

Stevens discussed the critical contributions Michigan Tech makes to the state’s innovation and mobility economy, including the university’s research initiatives and commitment to technology development, which are essential for driving economic growth.
