Over 250 Students Lead Innovation Across Michigan

On May 8, MichAuto partnered with Square One Education Network for their Innovative Vehicle Design Competition at Kettering University. This event brought together over 250 students from across Michigan to showcase their creativity, engineering, and teamwork while competing with autonomous and electric vehicles they designed and built.

During the event, MichAuto connected with students to encourage them to explore careers in the automotive and mobility industry, providing a glimpse into the future of transportation.

Tariffs: Where We Stand Today … Until it Changes Again

On May 13, MichAuto Executive Director Glenn Stevens Jr. led a discussion with UHY LLP Partner and Managing Director of UHY Advisors Thomas Alongi, and UHY Consulting Principal Charles Clevenger on the on the current landscape of American manufacturing as it relates to tariffs.

Alongi and Clevenger provided insights on managing the new tariff environment, including investing in technology to enhance productivity, focusing on cost-control measures, and the necessity of building robust relationships with suppliers to mitigate disruption.

Securing Michigan’s Future

On May 12, MichAuto Executive Director Glenn Stevens Jr. joined EV Hub Live: Michigan’s Race for its Future to discuss the actions required to secure Michigan’s future amidst the shift towards electrification and growing foreign competition.

The administration’s push for domestic manufacturing, particularly through vehicle tax credits and incentives for EVs, signals a shift towards a sustainable future that empowers our economy and reclaims control over our technology. Listen to the full episode.

New Board Members Join MichAuto

On May 13, MichAuto held its quarterly board meeting. During the meeting, we welcomed new board members: Brian Burke of Multimatic, Pat D’Eramo of Martinrea International Inc., Mike Malaga of Comerica, Ben Meachem of Detroit Manufacturing Systems LLC, Trae Allman of Innovo, Angela Ayers of Ford Motor Company, Justine Johnson of the Office of Future Mobility and Electrification, Michigan Economic Development Corporation, and Jeff Makarewicz of Toyota North America.

MichAuto also shared its recent advocacy, talent, and engagement efforts, showcasing initiatives aimed at promoting, retaining, and growing the automotive industry in Michigan.
