      Description:

Electrification’s Role in a Global Green Economy

As the U.S. continues to work on green energy policy, the European Union is implementing the “European Green Deal,” a 30-year plan to be carbon neutral by 2050.*

Comprehensive electrification of vehicles and transportation systems is paramount to the success of a global approach.

In September 2020, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer launched a state initiative to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 through development and implementation of the MI Healthy Climate Plan. Michigan is also a member of the U.S. Climate Alliance, a coalition comprised of governors throughout the U.S. that are working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions similar to actions being taken under the Paris Agreement.

Join us as Michigan and The Netherlands consider perspectives on the future of electrification. The distinguished panel includes Dr. Richard Smokers MSC, a leading research associate from renowned Dutch research organization, TNO; Denise Gray, president & CEO for LG Chem Michigan, Inc. Tech Center.

The program will be moderated by Eric Shreffler, Vice President of Market Development for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

*The European Green Deal is a set of policy initiatives by the European Commission with the overarching aim of making Europe climate neutral in 2050.Transport accounts for a quarter of the European Union’s greenhouse gas emissions and these continue to grow. The Green Deal seeks a 90% reduction in these emissions by 2050.

Want to know more about Michigan’s partnership with the Netherlands on emerging mobility issues?

In April 2018, Michigan signed an MOU with the Netherlands to promote increased cooperation in transportation technologies, including sharing regulatory and technological data, co-hosting bilateral and multilateral meetings and creating a joint task force. This relationship was forged with the recognition that both Michigan and the Netherlands are among the leading global players in the development of advanced automotive and mobility technologies.
