MEDC | MSF Hands Out Nearly $32M, Including To EVs & Auto Parts Manufacturers

MEDC logoLANSING, Mich.The Michigan Strategic Fund (MSF) approved eight business projects, including three expansion grants to go to an automotive parts manufacturer and a manufacturer of commercial electric vehicles.

VIA Motors Inc., a Utah-based electrical vehicle company that focuses on commercial vehicles, is planning to relocate its headquarters from Utah to Auburn Hills and was granted a $2.5 million Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant to help make it happen.

Canadian-based Magna International was given more than $12 million for three projects: Magna Seating of America, Inc, $2.9 million for expansion in Highland Park; Magna Powertrain of America, Inc., $1.3 million for expansion in Shelby Township in Macomb County; and Magna EV Structures Michigan, Inc., $1.5 million for expansion in St. Clair with a State Essential Services Exemption valued at up to more than $6.3 million.

MSF also approved a $1.5 million Michigan Community Revitalization Program performance-based grant to help rehabilitate a historic three-story building in downtown Chelsea.

The board approved $10 million to be added to Lambert and 9th Wonder, a communications firm, to attract and retain talent in Michigan.

Another $3.05 million was used to fund the Industry 4.0 Technology Implementation Grant program and the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center, which helps match services through road shows and the Industry 4.0 outreach.

They also approved two packages of community development block grants to 16 cities to help with public gathering spaces and improving water systems.
