MEDC logoMI STEM Forward Internship Program Open to Companies, Students in Michigan

Funding is still available for qualifying companies and students for the MI STEM Forward internship program. Launched in 2021, the Michigan STEM Forward Program is a statewide partnership between the MEDC and Ann Arbor SPARK which aims to connect the brightest upcoming talent with innovative and growing companies like Singh Automation, LLC and Stabilux Biosciences throughout Michigan. To date, the program has received applications from more than 360 companies and 2,000 potential interns and has filled approximately 430 paid internships.

Michigan Attracts Significant Corporate Investment in First Half of 2022
 
 

If the first half of 2022 is any indication, Michigan is equipped with all of the tools needed to be a leading state for attracting key projects and investments. Business attraction and expansion announcements so far this year span Michigan’s communities and industries, totaling $11.8 billion in projected private investment. The more than 30 company expansions and locations are projected to create a combined nearly 15,000 new jobs, and in turn provide ongoing customers for small businesses, increased population growth and more vibrant communities across the state.

 
 
 
 
 
Governor Whitmer Signs Fiscal Year 2023 Budget into Law
 
 

Governor Whitmer officially signed the Fiscal Year 2023 budget into law this week, which underscores the significance of the work MEDC is doing every day to build a championship economy here in Michigan. With stable funding for our core business, community and entrepreneurial efforts, along with increased funding for Pure Michigan and arts and culture initiatives, MEDC’s work has the potential to change the economic trajectory of every single person in the state from creating jobs with high wages and strong benefits, to investing in amenities that make our communities special places to live, work and visit, to helping small businesses throughout the state both grow and thrive.

 
 
 
 
 
UP Cybersecurity Symposium and Incident Response Workshops
 
 

The Upper Peninsula Cybersecurity Institute is hosting a free UP Cybersecurity Symposium for small businesses, municipalities, health care and community organizations at the NMU Northern Center in Marquette, Mich. from Tuesday, Aug. 30 to Thursday, Sept. 1. This focused three-day event will bring together multiple state, federal and civilian cybersecurity resources to connect with regional cybersecurity practitioners and decision-makers in an effort to increase cyber hygiene across the UP. Multiple hands-on training and workshops will be available to symposium participants. Space is limited, register by Aug. 26.
