On Thursday, Governor Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-96 to re-open retail businesses and auto dealerships by appointment only statewide beginning Tuesday, May 26, as part of her MI Safe Start Plan.

 
 

The order also lifts the requirement that health care providers delay some nonessential medical, dental and veterinary procedures statewide starting Friday, May 29. Lastly, she authorized small gatherings of 10 people or less starting immediately, as long as participants practice social distancing and wear face coverings.

 
 
 
 
Workplace Guidelines, New Hotline to Protect Michigan Workers
 
 

As the curve continues to flatten and many businesses reopen their doors, the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) issued workplace guidelines for employers and employees to ensure Michigan’s economy is re-engaged safely. MIOSHA also created a new hotline, 855-SAFEC19 (855-723-3219) to answer guideline questions and further protect Michigan’s workforce from the spread of COVID-19.

 
 
 
 
Employer Guidance on Best Practices from Department of Labor & Economic Opportunity
 
 

Before re-opening, businesses are required to adopt workplace safety measures to protect the health and well-being of both their employees and their customers. Restaurants and bars must also meet separate requirements, including limiting their capacity to 50 percent of their normal seating and keeping groups at least six feet away from one another. The Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity developed a guidance outlining eight steps for employers to keep their workers safe when returning to the job.

 
 
 
 
Academia Answers the Call in Michigan by Supporting COVID-19 Response Efforts
 
 

The state’s education network – from universities and community colleges to K12 school districts and after-school clubs – have answered the call in recent weeks to protect and support Michigan’s frontline public health workers.
