Steve Purdy spends the first half of this Shunpiker’s Journal episode talking to former Lansing mayor David Hollister. They discuss the documentary film and book he co-produced with Ray Tadgerson and others.
The projects center around how they mounted an unprecedented effort to keep General Motors in Lansing after the company announced they would close the historic Grand River Assembly plant for good back in the 1990s. Not only was this project successful but it has now become an internationally acclaimed case study for collaboration among disparate interest groups. The book and film are called “Second Shift, The Inside Story of the Keep GM Movement.”
