Hear this inspiring entrepreneurial story, sure to be a fit with many who visit MBN’s website. It begins with two young friends and a wood chipper, and it evolves into what is the world’s top-selling bean bag/casual lifestyle furniture brand positioned to break the $100 million milestone in sales this year.
It begins back in 1997 when college roommates Matt Jung and Chip George were solving for what they felt was an atrociously uncomfortable couch that had come with their rental unit. They determined the frame to be the primary culprit, so the pair decided to shred the foam and padding from the couch cushions and sew it into fabric to form a pair of rustic bean bag chairs. The result was a relax-worthy recliner so amazingly comfortable that all their friends insisted they make more. A new concept was born – The Fuf. The Fuf is now the inspiration for a revolutionized bean bag chair that is currently the #1 bestseller in ‘sofas and couches’ on Amazon.
Today, Comfort Research products are all sold under the ‘Big Joe‘ brand in major retailers like Sam’s Club, Walmart, Wayfair and Target. With more than 200 employees and three manufacturing facilities throughout the U.S.
Co-founders Matt Jung and Chip George are entrepreneurs at the core, and they have a unique approach to company culture-one that eschews traditional corporate culture benchmarks in favor of a culture that celebrates individuality as much as teamwork. What they are doing is different, but it’s clearly working.
