Tour will make 25 stops across Michigan, including Flint, Saginaw, Benton Harbor, Lansing, and more
LANSING, Mich. – Yesterday, in Flint, Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II made the second stop of his ‘Thriving Cities’ tour. In 2019, Lieutenant Governor Gilchrist started ‘Thriving Cities’ by holding conversations across Michigan to hear directly from community members in cities. This phase will analyze the tangible impacts of the game-changing investments the Whitmer-Gilchrist administration has made to help cities thrive, and explore ongoing, underlying challenges that they face.
“The Thriving Cities tour is focused on increasing the quality of life and uplifting economic opportunity in Flint and across the state of Michigan,” said Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II. “Cities like Flint offer tremendous opportunity to Michiganders and we are proud of the progress we have made to help families, communities, and small businesses in our cities thrive. However, cities continue to have underlying, unmet needs, and the COVID-19 pandemic further highlighted the disparities that Michiganders of color in cities face daily. I look forward to connecting with more communities across our state on this leg of the Thriving Cities tour to highlight what the Whitmer-Gilchrist Administration has done and will continue to do for Michiganders in cities.”
The Thriving Cities tour will be making 25 stops across Michigan, meeting with residents from across the state.
“I was proud to welcome Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist back to my hometown of Flint today,” said Congressman Kildee. “Flint is a strong and resilient community. Like many older, industrial Midwest towns with a rich manufacturing heritage, Flint faces challenges, too. When we invest in communities like Flint, we all benefit. That’s why I am working in Congress to secure additional federal resources and help enact state and federal policy to invest in and help revitalize Flint. Governor Whitmer and Lieutenant Governor Gilchrist continue to be great partners in this effort.”
