MIOSHA MVPP Cintas

LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) awarded Cintas Corporation #346 in Midland with the Michigan Voluntary Protection Program (MVPP) Star Award, recognizing the facility’s exemplary commitment to workplace safety and health.

Cintas Corporation, a leading provider of workplace safety, uniform and facility services, earned the prestigious designation for its Midland location, which operates as a garment processing, laundering, packaging and delivery facility. The site employs 98 workers and supports customers across Michigan.

Workplace safety remains a critical priority in Michigan, where an average of 40 workers lose their lives on the job each year. Programs like MVPP play a vital role in preventing these tragedies by encouraging employers to go beyond minimum safety requirements and implement comprehensive safety and health management systems.

“Achieving MVPP Star status reflects a strong, deeply rooted safety culture,” said Tarah Kile, director of MIOSHA’s Consultation Education and Training Division “MVPP represents the highest level of recognition for workplace safety and health in Michigan. When employers invest in safety beyond minimum requirements, workers are better protected, families are supported and businesses are positioned to thrive. At Cintas Midland, we saw engaged employees, active safety committees and leadership that has made safety part of how work gets done every day.”

During MIOSHA’s onsite evaluation, employee partners demonstrated a clear understanding of hazard identification, near-miss reporting and corrective action processes. The site’s safety efforts focus on ergonomic injury prevention, safe driving and fleet safety, heat stress management, machinery safety and the control of energized systems. The facility reported zero recordable injuries in 2025.

Only 29 worksites across Michigan currently hold MVPP Star status, MIOSHA’s highest workplace safety and health recognition. These sites serve as models and mentors for other employers seeking to strengthen their safety and health programs.

Cintas now has five MVPP Star worksites in Michigan, reflecting a long-standing commitment to workplace safety and health across multiple divisions. The company’s Michigan MVPP Star sites span first aid and safety services, industrial laundry operations and fire protection, with Star awards ranging from 2019 through 2025.

“Achieving MVPP Star status is a major accomplishment for our employee-partners and reflects their shared commitment to ensuring a safe workplace for everyone,” said Todd Mengeu, general manager of Cintas Midland. “Over the past five years, their dedication, teamwork and focus on continuous improvement have strengthened our safety culture and made this

Cintas also maintains 140 Voluntary Protection Program Star sites nationwide, the most of any company in the country.

About the Michigan Voluntary Protection Program (MVPP)

MIOSHA established the Michigan Voluntary Protection Program in 1996 to recognize employers with exemplary safety and health management systems that exceed MIOSHA requirements. The program is open to qualifying Michigan employers with injury and illness rates below the industry average for the past three years.

To earn MVPP Star status, employers undergo a rigorous evaluation process that includes a comprehensive program review, onsite assessments and employee interviews to verify that safety and health systems are effective and fully integrated into daily operations.
