Women in Defense Michigan will Honor Marta Tomkiw, Executive Director for SIE for the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities GVSC, with the Excellence in Leadership Award
Detroit, MI – Women in Defense Michigan (WID-MI) organization is set to honor four exceptional women at their 13th annual gala. Ms. Marta Tomkiw, Executive Director for Systems Integration and Engineering (SIE) for the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC) will receive the distinguished Excellence in Leadership Award. Additionally, three women will be honored with the Horizon Industry Award, a recognition for professionals who have significantly contributed to the U.S. defense and national security sectors. This year’s award categories include Product Development, Business Development, and Innovation Awards, underlining the multitude of achievements of these remarkable leaders.

The WID-MI annual gala aims to spotlight and honor female professionals in the defense industry for their accomplishments while nurturing a spirit of collaboration within the military-industrial complex. Expected to attract more than 300 attendees this year, the event is a reflection of the strides made by women-led contributions to national security endeavors.
Over the past year, the Women in Defense Michigan Chapter has accomplished numerous significant milestones. Notably, their Pi Day STEM event for 6th to 8th graders garnered an unprecedented attendance record, with virtual participation from multiple chapters nationwide. Moreover, they bestowed scholarships totaling over $18,000 upon high school and college students pursuing STEM-related careers. Noteworthy as well, they achieved the distinction of being the largest Women in Defense chapter in the entire country.
