The event originally set for Feb. 24th took place Tuesday
Earlier this week, LAFCU partnered with Perry High School to offer a one-hour Financial Reality Fair that provided hands-on experience and practical application to help students understand budgeting, saving, and investing, as well as how to financially transition into adulthood.
Perry High School students chose a career before the fair, then made choices at the fair that simulate one month of independent adult living based on their annual salary and assigned credit score. They also visited a financial counselor after seeing the results of their expenditures to discuss ways to improve their financial future.
Approximately 150 Perry High School students; volunteers, including representatives from LAFCU branches and its Lansing headquarters; and Perry High School teachers and staff participated. Perry High School, W. Britton Road, Perry, Michigan 9 to 10 a.m., on Tuesday the 21st.
The Michigan-based credit union, LAFCU, has long been a champion of financial education and literacy and has expanded those efforts to help high school students learn critical financial decision-making skills. The first Perry High School Financial Reality Fair was held in 2017 and was deemed a resounding success by teachers, students, and the administration. After a hiatus during the pandemic, the reality fair is back! The Financial Reality Fair is an extension of the LAFCU-Perry Public Schools partnership that began in 2014 to prepare the approximately 2,500 students to succeed financially and includes financial literacy curriculum at all grade levels.
