Joint Statement Supporting the Michigan Municipal League’s “MI Home Program” Housing Proposal

LANSING, Mich. – Following today’s announcement of the MI Home Program, a detailed strategy unveiled by the Michigan Municipal League to build and rehab more attainable housing in Michigan, a bipartisan group of lawmakers joined together to issue the following statement supporting the plan:

“As former local officials, we stand united in support of the MI Home Program proposed by the Michigan Municipal League. It represents a bold strategy to improve access to attainable housing and does so without eroding the voices of our local elected officials and the residents they represent. Providing targeted investment, mixed with efforts to update local zoning around best practices, is a solution that promotes partnership over preemption.

“This proposal offers a real opportunity to have a serious conversation about how we collectively work together to address the state’s housing needs. While the investment is targeted, the reach is broad, helping build and rehab a variety of housing options for both ownership and rentals. This comprehensive approach provides a creative solution to the housing issues our districts face, and it is why we are excited to support this proposal.”

Co-signers to the statement include the following state lawmakers:

Rep. Jaime Greene – HD 65

Rep. John Fitzgerald – HD 83

Rep. Mike McFall – HD 14

Rep. Amos O’Neal – HD 94

Rep. Natalie Price – HD 6

Rep. Ron Robinson – HD 58

Rep. Samantha Steckloff – HD 19

Rep. Mark Tisdel – HD 55

Sen. Jeremy Moss – SD 7
