Inside Business: Flint & Genesee Group Highlights Successes, Eyes Growth in 2022

The Flint & Genesee Group on March 30 reported on how it reimagined, reinvented, and reset in 2021 to create a stronger, more inclusive economy for Flint and Genesee County.

The annual meeting, held before more than 300 attendees at Flint’s Capitol Theatre, also spotlighted the Group’s broad-based efforts to help the business community meet its workforce needs related to pandemic-related challenges, such as the Great Resignation, and the out-migration occurring in the region.

“Our environment continued to be unpredictable last year, with the pandemic impacting how we work, the needs of our members and clients, and our staff,” said Group CEO Tim Herman. “But amid the uncertainties, we continued to grow and expand our capabilities to serve our customers and deliver value.”

FACES of Flint & Genesee Business: Sandra Clark, Applied EcoSystems

Since college, Sandra Clark has had a keen interest in the environment. She graduated with a degree in computer programming from the University of Michigan-Flint, a pathway that led her to where she is today.

 

“I was hired by an environmental company right out of college to do programming related to tracking groundwater contamination,” says Clark. “Shortly after that, I was hired by an environmental consulting company based out of Colorado to open their Michigan branch.”

 

After growing successfully for a few years, the owners looked to sell their company to a local competitor. That’s when Clark decided to put her hat in the ring. READ MORE

 

View Newspaper Group acquires Sherman newspapers

The View Newspaper Group has acquired the business operations of Sherman Publications, Inc., which includes the publications Lake Orion Review, Oxford Leader, Ortonville Citizen, Clarkston News, Advertiser, Penny Stretcher and Big Deal.

“The Sherman family’s local news legacy, which dates back to 1955, is one we’ve always admired at View Newspaper Group,” said Owner and President Rick Burrough. “We’ve known and worked with the Shermans for many years. When it came time for them to sell their papers, they sought us out knowing of our success in the community newspaper business and our reputation for treating stakeholders – readers, advertisers, vendors and employees – with fairness and respect.”

Founded in 2003 by Burrough, View Newspaper Group, which publishes Genesee County View and Tri-County Times, is a locally-owned community newspaper group that now includes 21 community newspapers covering Genesee, Lapeer, Oakland, Livingston, Sanilac, Huron, Saginaw, Shiawassee, Montcalm and Ionia counties. READ MORE
