Peters’ “Miles for Michigan” Tour Included Stops in Fenton Township, Lansing, and Battle Creek
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) led his annual motorcycle tour across the state to meet with local leaders, highlight success stories, and discuss challenges currently facing Michigan communities. Peters’ “Miles for Michigan” tour made stops in Fenton Township, Lansing, and Battle Creek. Peters was joined on the tour by veterans, union workers, and constituents. Peters is an avid and long-time motorcycle rider who founded the bipartisan Senate Motorcycle Caucus in 2017.
“Senator Gary Peters making his annual motorcycle tour across the state, launching it this morning here in Genesee County. This is his ninth motorcycle tour, and he’s calling it Miles for Michigan. Fenton Township is this year’s starting point.
“Senator Peters using the appearance as an opportunity to highlight millions in funding for the Southern Lakes Water Extension Project, and the township’s ongoing four phase project to connect residents and businesses to municipal water.
“‘This township relies on wells. It relies on water coming out of the ground. And unfortunately, there are high levels of just naturally occurring arsenic. In fact, it’s been determined the arsenic is about five times higher than what is considered safe for people to drink. So basically, poisonous kind of water that’s going into bodies.’ said Senator Peters.
“Well, from Fenton Township, Senator Peters rolled off and is headed to Lansing for a stop this afternoon. He will visit Battle Creek tomorrow.”
WLNS 6 News Lansing: Sen. Peters ‘Bike Tour’ Calls for Change
“Senator Gary Peters rolled in to Lansing on his motorcycle today, marking his ninth bike tour across Michigan, meeting with voters and advocates about various issues.
“Senator Peters used his love for motorcycle riding to bring his message directly to mid-Michigan.
“‘It’s important to know that it’s going to impact people right here, right in this neighborhood, right in the neighborhood next to us, and the neighborhood after that,’ said Peters.
“He says cuts made in President Trump’s so-called ‘big, beautiful bill’ make no financial sense.
“‘Every dollar that you invest in a child before school in Head Start actually saves about seven dollars of taxpayer money down the road because people are able to sustain themselves, lead the kind of life that we all want, and be a part of the middle class,’ said Peters.
“Senator Peters says he will be speaking with his Republican counterparts about these issues as soon as they return from recess.”
Michigan Advance: Peters calls out harms from federal healthcare cuts during Lansing motorcycle stop
“Marking his ninth annual motorcycle trip across the state since joining the U.S. Senate, Sen. Gary Peters (D-Bloomfield Township) stopped in Lansing Monday afternoon to detail the impacts Republicans’ tax and spending plan would have on Medicaid and food assistance.
“Pulling up to Capital Area Community Services Head Start in Lansing, Peters shook hands with educators and staffers before meeting with reporters outside of the building to discuss the conversations he’s had with constituents while Congress remains in recess.
“‘The important part of this whole trip is to come to places like this and get a sense of what’s happening in the communities, what are some of the challenges that we are having in our communities,’ Peters said, warning that Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill Act will cause more Michiganders to lose their healthcare.
“Lansing Mayor Andy Schor, who joined Peters for his Lansing stop, said the city’s financial empowerment center, which offers residents free financial counseling, had surveyed individuals on their insurance status. Out of 298 individuals they’d served since October, 268 had health insurance. Of that group, nearly 46% received coverage through Medicaid.
“Additionally, 112 of those 298 individuals have a disability, with 76% of that group relying on Medicaid, Medicare, or U.S. Veteran’s Administration benefits for coverage.
“Peters said these impacts will affect individuals in communities all across the country, prodding his Republicans colleagues to take time to talk to their constituents.
“‘If they hear from people, they’ll hear the same stories that I’m hearing, and I would hope that they care. I’m going to ask them about that when I get back in a couple of weeks, because we have to revisit this stuff,’ Peters said.
“Additionally, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act is estimated to increase the budget deficit by $3.4 billion over the next decade, with Peters warning this will lead to higher interest rates, making it more expensive to buy a house or a car.”

“Today in Lansing, Senator Peters addressed how Michiganders can help each other and what they need to know.
“‘When people are hurt, there are consequences to that. People need to know that people are hurt and when they do, I know people in Michigan will stand up and make sure that their voice is heard. We just need to make sure they have the information they need to make the decisions for themselves and then take action.’”
WWMT CBS 3 Kalamazoo: Sen. Gary Peters “Miles for Michigan” Motorcycle Tour
“Michigan Senator Gary Peters wrapping up his annual Miles for Michigan motorcycle tour, with his final stop being Western Michigan University’s College of Aviation in Battle Creek.
“Peters says he’s working to increase funding across the board in order to secure essential equipment and strengthen training programs. Given a nationwide pilot shortage, Senator Peters says he hopes continued investments will provide valuable opportunities for the next generation of aviation professionals, which he says will in turn lead to a stronger workforce and economy in West Michigan.
“‘We know we have to make major investments in aviation when it comes to our control towers and controlling airspace. Those investments are way behind where they need to be, but we also have significant shortages of pilots and mechanics and other folks in the industry. That’s why I worked to increase funding across the board for training programs,’ said Peters.
“Senator Peters was joined by WMU’s new president, Russ Kavalhuna, who previously attended WMU’s College of Aviation.”
WOOD NBC 8 Grand Rapids: Sen. Peters Visits WMU’s Aviation School
“Senator Gary Peters wrapped up his annual motorcycle tour this morning in Battle Creek. The senator was joined by a group of riders at the Western Michigan University College of Aviation.
“He toured the facility and got to see the college’s drone program and land a plane in the flight simulator. Peters says riding his motorcycle across the state is a passion of his and he’s been able to highlight some of the premier places all across the state. He picked the College of Aviation as one of his stops because there’s a need in the aviation industry right now.
“‘When you get into the aviation industry right now, you’re pretty much guaranteed a job, and it’s a really good job that pays really well. And it’s just an incredibly exciting career. So, I hope students out there who may be out there viewing this to understand that this is a great career, and they should explore it. And this is a great place to do that.
“The tour ended with Peters hopping into one of the school’s Cirrus SR20s with WMU President Russ Kavalhuna for a short trip around the area, including a flyover of the Ford Blue Oval Battery Park in nearby Marshall.”
