Welcome back to campus! IBC/MSU-CIBER has been busy this summer supporting the academic and business community to strengthen our ties with our partners, offering programs/events/conferences and building new relationships locally and across the globe

This newsletter will highlight the work IBC accomplished during the summer period. The letter will particularly highlight the 2022 AIB Conference that took place in Miami, FL, as well as our initiatives with the local community and business network.  

I also want to welcome all students back on campus and look forward to work with you this year. Looking forward to a productive academic year in 2022-2023. As always, if you have any questions – the IBC team stands ready to support.

July 6-9th, 2022: AIB Annual Meeting in Miami, FL 

After two years of online-only events, the Academy of International Business (AIB) successfully held its 2022 Annual Meeting in Miami, Florida with over 700 members of the IB community in attendance. Programming for this multi-day event included 65 panel sessions, 80 paper presentations, and 50 professional development clinics, workshops, and masterclasses.  

Building on the technological infrastructure it has been developing since 2020, AIB followed up its in-person Annual Meeting with a complementary Virtual Event, boosting its final participant count to over 1,000 individuals, representing 61 different countries. Expanding accessibility to scholars still grappling with travel, health, and budgeting restrictions, this online program featured an additional 40 paper presentations, live networking events, and a rich media archive of pre-recorded special sessions.

Global Business Club Highlights

April 26, 2022: World IP Day with MSU A-CAPP Center and Burgess Institute of Entrepreneurship

In the spring of 2022, IBC/MSU-CIBER joined forces with MSU A-CAPP Center to organize the World IP Day event. This year’s theme focused directly on young, energetic entrepreneurs of the world. We were presented with the unique opportunity to implement vital knowledge of intellectual property rights to those future innovators who will, in turn, supply the world with their own intellectual property. These creators of the world, when equipped with this knowledge of how to effectively navigate the rules and regulations of the digital space, set themselves apart from their predecessors.

Lansing Economic Club:

Lansing Regional Chamber was excited to announce the return of in-person Lansing Economic Club programs at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center, enjoying some face-to-face networking, presentation, and lunch. IBC will continue to be a sponsor for the Lansing Chamber fall events, and if you would like to attend, please contact Ronda Bunnell at bunnell@msu.edu.

On June 7th, 2022 IBC/MSU-CIBER sponsored the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Econ Club event titled        . IBC’s Director Ahmet H. Kirca held brief remarks and introduced the keynote speaker Mark de la Vergne (Cavnue).

AIB Wraps Up Hiring:

The Academy of International business is currently hiring for an Events Coordinator and an Events Manager position. The academy is wrapping up interviews in August and looking forward to welcoming two new staff members in the new academic year.  

Farewell Carlotta Gmachl:

IBC’s Assistant Director of International Trade Programs, Carlotta Gmachl has accepted a new position outside the university. We want to thank her for her year of service and wish her all the best for her future endeavors. Her last day will be August 31st, 2022.

IBC’s Carlotta Claire Gmachl, MBA attended the . The event was hosted by the Van Andel Global Trade Center and U.S. Commercial Service and provided several panels and speaker sessions that gave insights on various topics around global trade and export.

International Trade and Development Internship Program  

IBC in partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation launched their new Export Internship Program. The program supports Michigan exporters by matching them to enthusiastic students that can assist with the companies’ international strategic growt
