The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been quietly launching stealthy cyber attacks against a range of private U.S. companies. These intrusion attempts are commissioned in advance by the companies themselves, and are a part of a little-known program at DHS designed to help “critical infrastructure” companies such as banks and energy firms, shore up network defenses.
DHS’s National Cybersecurity Assessment and Technical Services (NCATS) program is offering these services for free, and they include penetration testing. There are many private sector firms that perform similar functions and we want to make you aware of what some of the differences are and the benefits of each.
