Building Better Futures event will showcase unique opportunities for students, offer resources for training, jobs
HOLT, Mich. — To help students learn more about careers in the skilled trades, Holt Public Schools will host a Building Better Futures panel to provide students information about apprenticeships and offer a chance to meet industry professionals.
The event will feature panelists representing careers in electrical, construction, waste services, iron working, utilities, roofing and water proofing. It will take place at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 15, at Holt High School, 5885 Holt Rd.
Panelists will explain the variety of education and training programs that are available for skilled trades careers and provide information on how students can get started in their career while still in high school. Students also will learn about which companies are hiring young workers over the summer.
“This panel is a highlight of the spring!,” said Lucas Schrauben, director of secondary programs at Holt High School. “It will help students get a head start in their careers and have a connection to onboarding to one of these valuable apprenticeship opportunities in our region, as well as learn more about what skilled trades jobs might interest them.”
The following companies will be in attendance at the Building Better Futures panel: Capital Area Michigan Works!, the Lansing Board of Water & Light, Granger Construction, Granger Waste Services, the Greater Michigan Construction Academy, Consolidated Electrical Contractors, Roofers and Waterproofers Local 70, Ironworkers Local 25, Bricklayers Local 2 and Elevator Constructors.
