The Automotive Leaders Letter
The UAW strikes appear to be resolved, however the several weeks when this was the top headline, we must remember that our Tier 2 and Tier 3 supply base is vulnerable, as it’s still recuperating from the COVID and chip shortages. These smaller firms, often family-owned, are struggling and currently face challenges such as wage increases, rising transportation and utility costs, and raw material increases that cannot always be fully recovered.
To tackle this critical issue, I invited two experts in supplier risk management to the AUTOMOTIVE LEADERS podcast, Tor Hough, the CEO of Elm Analytics, and Sig Huber, the CCO of Elm Analytics and a former purchasing leader at FCA and supplier risk manager at Toyota. They share their insights on the topic, and you can listen to the podcast by clicking on the image below.

As we face the challenges of this crisis, it’s crucial that we establish robust and genuine connections with our suppliers. We should communicate with them frequently and openly, using a supportive and coaching approach that helps build trust at every step. Companies that cultivate strong relationships with their suppliers and maintain transparent communication can recognize warning signs early on and take prompt action to address them. If you need support communicating with your supply base, I’m here to help. Leveraging podcasting technology to create a private podcast specifically for your supply base is an efficient, effective, and low-cost option for crisis communication.
