Gov. Whitmer Announces $5 Million for Affordable Housing Project for Educators

 in Traverse City Made Possible by Passage of New Budget  

LANSING, Mich. – Tuesday, in Traverse City, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced $5 million for an affordable housing project for educators in the community. The project is made possible by the passage of Governor Whitmer’s FY25 budget. Specifically, this funding will support  phase one of the project’s development, creating 72 affordable rental units designated for school employees.    

Since taking office, Governor Whitmer has fought for Michigan’s educators, ensuring they have the tools they need to thrive economically and professionally. In her the recently passed budget, she continued support of the MI Future Educator Program-a tuition-free program for college students to become certified teachers and to provide stipend payments to student teachers. She also she continued support for payments to offset the cost of student loans for educators.
