(Flint, Mich., Feb. 13, 2025) The Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance, in collaboration with local partners, is launching the Genesee Entrepreneurial Network (GEN) to strengthen support for entrepreneurs and small business owners in Flint & Genesee.
GEN unites a coalition of local small business service providers – nonprofits, municipalities, financial institutions, and universities – all dedicated to providing expert guidance in business planning, product development, financing, personal credit, and professional training at little to no cost to small business owners.
GEN partners will meet monthly to share updates on programs, events, and resources, enhancing collaboration and referrals to help local businesses access the support they need. Additionally, the network will identify gaps in entrepreneurial resources, increase the visibility of funding opportunities, and connect businesses with potential buyers and markets.
To further its mission, GEN will host Launchpad, a monthly open consultation session where business owners can receive free one-on-one consultation and connect with essential resources.
To begin, the first Launchpad event will take place on Feb. 27, from noon to 3 p.m. at St. Michael’s Conference Center, at 609 E. Fifth Ave., Flint.
This special kick-off event will include a panel featuring GEN partners including Metro Community Development, the Small Business Development Corporation, and others. Afterward, attendees will have the opportunity to receive free one-on-one business consultations with the participating GEN partners.
According to Hamlet, the initiative complements the Economic Alliance’s Small Business Support Hub, which launched in early 2024.
“Through GEN, we’re strengthening the support system for entrepreneurs in Genesee County by making it easier to access the resources they need to succeed,” Hamlet said. “Whether you’re just getting started or looking to scale, this network is here to help.”
