Wimee’s Words, an interactive live kids show created by local digital and tech startup, Wimage was awarded $5,000 at the first 5×5 Night All-Stars competition
Grand Rapids, Michigan – October 2020 – On September 30th, Wimee’s Words a web-based interactive LIVE kids show was declared the winner of the first 5×5 All-Stars Night, hosted by Start Garden. The competition gave applicants five minutes to present five slides that illustrate their innovative concept. Unlike previous 5×5 competitions, the All-Star Night pitted previous winners against each other. Wimee’s Words, which came out on top, was awarded $5,000 to further grow and evolve their online platform.
“The funds will help us expand our capabilities to stream Wimee’s Words to multiple partners,” said Michael Hyacinthe, founder of Wimage and creator of Wimee’s Words. “The current platform we use limits our capacity to stream our daily show to more than 8 different partner pages, and we have exceeded that number. In order to grow the Wimee’s Words program, we need to have an unlimited streaming capacity to reach hundreds of schools’ and libraries’ Facebook pages. This will allow our show and our technology to be seen by countless viewers, in a time when it is most needed.”
Wimee’s Words encourages imagination, vocabulary building, and storytelling through puppetry, music, technology, and wordplay. This show features a singing robot, story writing, a science bird, language explorers, musical guests, kid chats, and daily features such as Tech Talk Thursday’s. Wimee’s Words is a collaboration with Kent District Library and can be seen every weekday at 1:00 pm EST on the Wimee Facebook page, here.
Due to COVID-19, schools are now developing a combination of both online and in-person curriculums. Many are in desperate need of structured digital content to assist teachers and families. Wimee’s Words was created as an adaptable educational tool for schools, libraries, homeschooling, and more. The show has the capability to stream directly on multiple Facebook pages.
Since many low-income children do not have reliable access to the internet, Wimee’s Words is also collaborating with libraries across West Michigan to make Wimee’s Words more widely available. “Our goal is for Wimee’s Words to be a program all libraries and educational institutions are showing their members or students directly on their Facebook or YouTube accounts,” said Hyacinthe.
