Reliable transportation is the backbone of a robust regional economy. On Aug. 4, Wayne County voters will decide on a 10-year transit millage proposal that represents a strategic investment in the regional workforce and local business ecosystem.

Earlier today, the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Director of Public Policy and Business Advocacy, Adam Majestic, joined Wayne County Transit for All, alongside business and community leaders, including Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, to discuss how expanded regional transit can boost the Region’s economy.

“Businesses succeed when employees and customers can reliably reach them,” said Majestic. “Strong public transportation expands workforce access, supports local small businesses, and makes Wayne County more competitive by giving residents and employers the transportation options they need to thrive.”

On July 13, the Chamber expressed support of establishing the I-94 Development District in Macomb County as Lenox Township Board heard public comment on plans to locate a major data center project in the township. The purpose of the district is to foster economic growth, expand employment opportunities, and strengthen the township’s tax base through the development and redevelopment of land adjacent to the interstate.

As a member of the Michigan for Responsible Data Centers coalition, the Chamber continues to call for a fact-based conversation on data centers, the potential economic impact, and evolving efforts to mitigate that impact of these projects. Recently, Public Sector Consultants released a report commissioned by the Detroit Regional Chamber, Michigan Chamber Foundation, and Business Leaders For Michigan on how to responsibly move data center projects forward. 

The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) is an essential tool to maintain critical trade relationships with the nation’s largest trade partners and support the complex supply chains that sustain Michigan’s signature automotive and mobility industry.
