eDetroiter: Chamber Polling Gives Insight on the August Primary Races

In advance of the 2026 Mackinac Policy Conference, the Detroit Regional Chamber released polling of likely voters in key Democratic and Republican primaries in August.

Conducted by the Glengariff Group, Inc., this Chamber polling will help drive the conversation about where the races stand as the Chamber continues to support bipartisanship, compromise, and the pursuit of common ground to advance the Detroit Region and Michigan.

Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield, Actor-Humanitarian Gary Sinise Added to Mackinac Policy Conference Agenda ​

Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield joins the lineup of leaders added to the Chamber’s 2026 Mackinac Policy Conference agenda.

In her keynote, Sheffield will reflect on Detroit’s momentum and the priorities guiding her administration as the city continues its upward trajectory. She will discuss how her office is working to advance inclusive growth, strengthen neighborhoods, and position Detroit for long-term success.

Additionally, don’t miss the opportunity to hear from Gary Sinise, actor, humanitarian, and founder of the Gary Sinise Foundation.

As the U.S. approaches its 250th anniversary, Sinise will discuss how patriotism can be a unifying force for individuals who traditionally struggle to find common ground, and will also share insights from his work within the veteran community.

Leadership Detroit and MichAuto Investors Visit the Capitol

Last week, the Chamber hosted various events in Lansing, showcasing its leading role as the voice of business on key issues like next-generation mobility and maintaining a world-class business climate.

On Tuesday, April 21, the Chamber’s Public Policy and Business Advocacy team joined the Chamber’s MichAuto program as it hosted its annual Automobility Day at the Capitol, bringing together MichAuto investors and Michigan legislators to discuss priorities for the year ahead. Read an event recap.

Additionally, participants of Leadership Detroit Class 46, the Chamber’s flagship leadership enrichment program, spent April 23 at the Capitol, taking a tour and speaking with state government officials.

Lansing Budget Updates: Critical Talent and Economic Programs Face Divergent Paths ​​

Last week, Michigan legislative subcommittees advanced numerous budget proposals for the 2026-27 fiscal year, presenting contrasting visions for the state’s economic future. The legislature is currently on pace to complete the budget by July 1.

The Chamber’s Public Policy and Business Advocacy team will continue to inform Chamber members and the business community about these budget proposals, which include insights on Michigan’s economic development and talent pipeline, K-12 education and workforce preparation, property tax reform, and infrastructure, defense, and local government.
