DETROIT —A new poll conducted by Glengariff Group for The Detroit News and WDIV-TV released today shows that Michigan voters are ready for a change in Lansing, and Mike Duggan is the change they are looking for.
“In one potential matchup, about 34% of participants said they would vote for Republican U.S. Rep. John James of Shelby Township, 32% chose Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson of Detroit and 26% backed Duggan, the former mayor of Detroit. The result was within the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points, and 8% of participants said they were undecided,” wrote the Detroit News.
In May of 2025, Glengariff Group conducted a similar poll with Benson at 34.5 percent, James at 34 percent and Duggan at 21.5 percent, with the remaining 9.4 percent undecided.
“When an Independent is statistically tied with both parties, it tells you everything you need to know about how fed up voters are with politics as usual. People want solutions, not slogans, and they’re ready for something different,” said Ed Duggan, campaign manager. “This poll shows there’s significant momentum for independent leadership that puts results ahead of party labels.”
National polling done by Gallup and released this week indicates that 45 percent of Americans identify as Independent, the highest percentage since 2011. More than 13,000 U.S. adults participated in the survey.
Duggan announced his Independent campaign for governor in December of 2024 and has secured 15 endorsements from labor unions, the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Southeast Michigan Chamber of Commerce. Duggan’s campaign announced the support of more than 200 elected officials in August and 160 members of the clergy endorsed in April.
Duggan raised $1.17 million in the third quarter of 2025, with 88% coming from Michigan donors. Duggan has raised nearly $4.4 million since the start of his campaign.
