Driving Environment – Rights, Insurance, Speed Traps and More!

2016_03_29_Shunpikers.jpegOur guest for this program is Jim Walker, activist and legislative liaison for the National Motorists Association, the only organization we know of that promotes and defends the rights of North American motorists. Formed during the early days of the Federal Government’s imposition of the 55 mph National Maximum Speed Limit to fight against that unpopular and flawed law, the NMA focuses on issues like red light cameras, speed traps, traffic enforcement for revenue rather than safety, privatization of public infrastructure, civil forfeiture and a variety of other issues that affect our rights to drive in peace. (Your host, by the way, has been the NMA Michigan Chapter coordinator and activist for about 30 years.)

Jim Walker is an expert on a variety of topics including highway design, speed setting and the legal process. We talk about a variety of issues with which the Michigan legislature is dealing currently that affect our driving environment like the potential raising of speed limits on some roads, changes in the Freedom of Information Act, safety cameras on school buses in the Detroit area, Michigan’s car insurance environment and allocation of traffic ticket fines.

Jim is also a world traveler, former rally racer and general car enthusiast, so we talk about those more colourful topics as well. Join us for this episode of A Shunpiker’s Journal.

National Motorists Association defends the rights and promotes the interests of North American motorists.
