  • Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court Bridget McCormack will join the MBA as our keynote guest in the second of our three Banker Day at the Capitol Series calls next Tuesday, June 16. REGISTER HERE.
  • The Michigan Legislature moved a supplemental appropriations bill for action to the floor of the House which included various appropriations of $1.25B of the $3B provided to Michigan through the federal CARES Act. Negotiations with the Governor continue this week. SB 0690.
  • Governor Whitmer announced Friday afternoon additional action to reopen more sectors of the Michigan Economy. The U.P. and Northern Michigan will move into Phase 5 of the MI Safe Start Plan on June 10 and salons, nails, and other personal services can reopen next Monday. READ EO 2020-114 & EO 2020-115.

  • OCC Hosts Mutual Savings Association Advisory Committee Meeting June 29 Via Webinar. Learn more.
  • OCC Requests Comment on Proposal to Update Activities and Operations Rules and its Rules on Digital Activities. Read more.
  • The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Conference of State Bank Supervisors issued joint guidance for borrowers on the mortgage relief provisions included in the CARES Act. The law requires servicers of federally backed mortgages to provide forbearance to borrowers facing financial hardships due to COVID-19 for up to two consecutive 180-day periods, and waive additional interest, fees or penalties beyond the amounts scheduled. View the guidance.
  • In a comment letter to the FDIC yesterday, ABA raised concerns that the agency’s recent proposal to modernize brokered deposit rules does not go far enough to narrow the definition of “deposit broker” and would continue to impose unnecessary costs on stable funding sources gathered through modern means. Read more.
  • The members of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) released the following statement on the importance of financial inclusion: “We, the prudential and consumer financial protection regulators of the U.S. financial system, are committed to financial inclusion. Racism and discrimination must not be tolerated. Everyone deserves the opportunity to participate in our financial mainstream. We remain steadfastly dedicated to ensuring that the financial institutions which we regulate provide fair access and fair treatment to everyone in America.”

  • The outlook for household income growth rose to 2.1% in May, up from a series low of 1.9% the month prior, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s monthly Survey of Consumer Expectations. It was the first increase in four months. Meanwhile, household spending growth expectations also ticked up 0.7 percentage point to 2.9% in May. Read more.
