Consumers Energy File 2027 Reliability Action Plan with State Regulators

MBN: CE 27 plan

MBN: CE

JACKSON, MI, June, 2026 – Consumers Energy has asked state regulators to approve its 2027 Reliability Action Plan, a blueprint for upgrades that will lead to fewer and shorter power outages.

As we shared last week, the plan represents a significant step to secure the grid. The company proposes clearing more trees away from power lines, burying 50 miles of lines, improving circuits where customers experience outages more often, and adding technology to monitor and manage our system more effectively.

“We’re making strategic investments every day to ensure we better serve homes and businesses that count on us. Since 2021, Consumers Energy’s average electric customer experienced a 28% in how long they go without power in normal conditions. These upgrades are critical to build on that,” said Greg Salisbury, Consumers Energy’s senior vice president of electric distribution.

“We know cost is top of mind for customers, which is why we’re focused on smart, strategic investments to improve service — ensuring 75 cents of every customer dollar goes back into the grid. We will continue to do all we can to ensure people have access to assistance to manage and pay bills.”

The filing with the Michigan Public Service Commission kicks off a 10-month review process that allows the public to offer input on Consumers Energy’s plan.

Details about the 2027 Reliability Action Plan will be shared online later today at Consumersenergy.com/RateRequests.
