LANSING, Mich. – Clean Fuels Michigan released a statement today after the Michigan Legislature approved a series of economic development bills that will expand workforce development and grow clean transportation jobs.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is expected to sign the sweeping legislative package focused on maintaining Michigan as the home of the automotive industry.
“Today’s $1 billion investment is a down payment on Michigan’s economic future while capitalizing on innovation and growing the next generation of the clean mobility industry and jobs,” said Jane McCurry, executive director of Clean Fuels Michigan. “The exciting part is this is just the beginning. Michigan has a significant amount of money yet to invest in electrifying publicly owned vehicles like those in the state fleet or buses and focusing on equity in electric vehicle infrastructure deployment like installing chargers at multifamily housing properties. We look forward to working with the Legislature and Governor on these other investment opportunities in the months ahead.”
The MI Clean Future Initiative, a collaborative of 27 corporations and nonprofits, has been advocating for investments in economic development, clean vehicles, and infrastructure necessary for Michigan to lead in the clean mobility industry.
