McDonald’s, Field Neurosciences Institute Launch ‘Caught Being Safe’ Campaign
Michigan first responders to reward kids wearing helmets, life jackets with McDonald’s ice cream
FREELAND, Mich. – (June 2023) – McDonald’s of Michigan and the Field Neurosciences Institute have officially launched the 18th annual Caught Being Safe campaign across the state. Caught Being Safe is a state-wide program where uniformed personnel reward kids for wearing helmets, life jackets and using safe behaviors by giving them a coupon for a free ice cream cone or apple slices at participating McDonald’s restaurants.
Michigan State Police, local police departments, sheriff’s departments, fire departments, DNR patrols, EMS services, and Coast Guard stations make up the more than 500 agencies around Michigan that are participating.
McDonald’s and the Field Neurosciences Institute launched the event Tuesday night in Freeland during the Freeland Kid Bike Night at the Freeland United Methodist Church. Representatives from McDonald’s, FNI, Michigan State Police, and local first responders were on hand to celebrate and offer bike safety tips.
“We can’t thank our community partners around the state enough for helping with this fun campaign,” said Larry Peters Jr., a McDonald’s Owner/Operator with restaurants in Bay, Genesee, Oakland, and Saginaw counties. “Safety should be the top priority when it comes to summer fun. McDonald’s of Michigan is happy to reward any youngster who takes the initiative to wear a helmet or life jacket – even if we have to scare them first with some flashing lights and sirens!”
