Women in the Workforce – How COVID-19 Exposed Workforce Inequality and What Leaders Should Do About It

Wednesday, April 7, 2021  |  9:30 AM EST

The COVID-19 pandemic brought on unemployment numbers not seen since World War II, and women have been hit especially hard. While workforce disparities among women and men were prevalent pre-pandemic, women-dominated work sectors facing job losses and increased caregiving burdens placed on women have been driving factors behind the millions of women who have left the workforce. The women that remain are left to wonder what the future of work and what the value of their work will look like in a hybrid work environment.

Who will make the decision regarding hybrid work offices? How can employers keep a level playing field when caregivers are more likely to work from home? What can policymakers and companies do to address both the current challenges and persistent systemic inequalities that women in the workforce are facing?

On Wednesday, April 7th at 9:30 AM EDT, CAR will host a panel discussion with leading women in the automotive industry to address how the pandemic has exacerbated workforce inequality and what companies should do to build a more equitable future. Autoline’s John McElroy will moderate the discussion.

Panelists:

  • Carla Bailo, President and CEO, Center for Automotive Research
  • Terry Barclay, President and CEO, Inforum
  • Cheryl Thompson, CEO and Founder, Center for Automotive Diversity, Inclusion and Advancement (CADIA)
