Local Manufacturing Leaders Visit Classrooms to Present Career Information to Over 1,000 Students

(LANSING) – On Friday, October 1, Capital Area Manufacturing Council (CAMC) members will visit schools throughout Ingham, Eaton, Clinton, Shiawassee, Livingston and Ionia counties to celebrate National Manufacturing Day. These K12 presentations are part of a nationwide effort to change public perception about today’s advanced manufacturing industry and draw attention to career opportunities available in this sector, highlighting modern technology and work environments.

Each year, Manufacturing Day teaches students, parents, and the public about modern manufacturing. The fourth industrial revolution is rapidly bringing new careers requiring skilled workforce positions including bioengineers, data analysts, robotics technicians, skilled tradespersons, and many more.

CAMC Director Cindy Kangas knows how essential Manufacturing Day can be for local industries.”This is a great opportunity to celebrate manufacturers in our backyard,” Kangas said. “Local manufacturers make products they ship globally, that keep us safe, enrich our lives, strengthen our economic and national security, and provide countless opportunities for our communities.”

Lansing Community College (LCC) dean of technical careers, Cathy Wilhm, agrees Manufacturing Day creates excellent outreach for those seeking excellent careers.
“Manufacturing Day helps us educate and inspire future generations of manufacturing workers about exciting career opportunities available, Wilhm said. “Manufacturing jobs are more advanced than ever, and the manufacturing sector contributed $2.17 trillion to the U.S. economy last year.”
