The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) will host a series of open houses to gather feedback on the new Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), which will guide BWL’s commitment to continue delivering clean, affordable and reliable power to the region for decades to come.

An IRP is a best-practice management tool used by utilities to assess future energy needs for customers and determine how best to meet them. The BWL’s IRP will support the ongoing commitment to cleaner energy while maintaining affordable and reliable power for customers. At the open houses, citizens will be encouraged to offer input and suggestions, plus speak with BWL staff members on topics including generation challenges and clean energy initiatives.

Registration is not required. Dates and locations for all the open houses are as follows:

·         Thursday, July 24, 4:30-7pm, Alfreda Schmidt Community Center (Community Room), 5825 Wise Rd., Lansing

·         Monday, July 28, 4:30-7pm, Delta Township Public Safety Facility, 7708 Administration Rd., Lansing

·         Monday, August 4, 9am-12pm, BWL REO Depot, 1201 S. Washington Ave., Lansing

·         Monday, August 4, 4:30-7pm, East Lansing Hannah Community Center (Banquet Hall) 819 Abbot Rd., East Lansing

·         Tuesday, August 5, 4:30-7pm, Allen Neighborhood Center (Great Room), 1611 E. Kalamazoo St., Lansing

Those who are unable to attend one of the open houses can also submit comments at https://bit.ly/BWLIRP25.

“This IRP process is a necessary step in energy planning, as the end result will guide how we deliver power to our customers well into the future,” said BWL General Manager Dick Peffley. “It also gives our customers an opportunity to learn about and be part of the planning process. As we continue to move toward cleaner energy sources, we need to stay mindful of our customers’ top priority, which they have communicated to us repeatedly, and that’s to maintain affordable and reliable power.”

The final IRP is expected to be presented to the BWL Board of Commissioners in January 2026. More information about the open houses and the BWL’s energy plans can be found at www.lbwl.com.
