Statement from President and CEO Jeff Donofrio in response to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s FY2024 Budget Recommendation

We are encouraged by many of the proposals in Governor Whitmer’s budget, which includes significant investments to improve K-12 outcomes and equity, provide in-demand training and credentials to adults and support economic development. Last year’s bipartisan budget, provided key investments to help Michigan become more competitive for jobs, families grow their incomes and support Michigan’s progress toward becoming a top 10 state for economic growth.

With large onetime and ongoing surpluses, we have a unique opportunity to accelerate our progress and go beyond quick fixes, especially if we want to overtake states who’ve grown faster than Michigan. Business Leaders for Michigan continues to urge elected officials to focus on investment that will be truly transformative. Michigan can’t lose this opportunity to become a leader in education, help entrepreneurs start and scale up their businesses, improve fiscal stability, and make sure every Michigander get the skills and training they need to advance in their careers.
