DETROIT, MI – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) released a video recognizing Michigan manufacturers and workers in advance of Manufacturing Day, which is today, Friday, October 7th.

“Today we’re celebrating the contributions of all the workers across Michigan who help keep us at the forefront of innovation. It’s because of you that our state is known around the world as the backbone of American manufacturing,” Senator Peters said. “This year, we have a lot to celebrate. Working with President Biden, we’ve been able to get multiple bills signed into law to bolster manufacturing and enter a new era of American ingenuity.

“With these historic investments in American workers, we’re cementing our place as global leaders in manufacturing for years to come. So to all the workers in Michigan and across the United States: thank you all for the hard work you do to support our communities and our country. I’ll always fight for you and for good-paying manufacturing jobs in our state,” he concluded.

Peters has made strengthening domestic manufacturing a top priority during his time in the Senate. He helped author and pass the CHIPS and Science Act, which includes a provision he and Senator Debbie Stabenow (MI) secured to boost the auto sector’s manufacturing of semiconductor chips. Peters also supported and helped pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which will strengthen domestic manufacturing and create millions of American jobs.

Video of his remarks is available here, and below is the text as delivered:

“Happy Manufacturing Day! Today we’re celebrating the contributions of all the workers across Michigan who help keep us at the very forefront of innovation. It’s because of you that our state is known around the world as the backbone of American manufacturing.

“This year, we have a lot to celebrate. Working with President Biden, we’ve been able to get multiple bills signed into law to bolster manufacturing and enter a new era of American ingenuity.

“I was proud to lead the charge to boost American manufacturing of semiconductor chips, including for our auto sector, in the CHIPS and Science Act – which is a game changer for Michigan and our manufacturing sector.

“Now that President Biden has signed the CHIPS Act into law, the federal government has made a significant new investment to bring chip manufacturing back home to America, strengthen our supply chains, support well-paying jobs, lower costs for families, and bolster our national security. The law also makes needed investments in research and development for cutting-edge scientific advancements, which will pave the way for the innovations and inventions of the future.

“I also helped enact the Inflation Reduction Act, which will boost domestic manufacturing and accelerate development of clean energy. This law helps build American clean energy supply chains, increases tax incentives aimed to bolster manufacturing of American-made products, which will create millions of American jobs.

“And thanks to these efforts, manufacturing jobs haven’t just rebounded after pandemic losses – they’ve surged. Companies from around the world are committed to building and expanding their manufacturing footprints in the United States because we’ve shown that we’re entering a new era of innovation. I strongly believe that you can’t be a great country if you don’t actually make things – and with these historic investments in American workers, we’re cementing our place as global leaders in manufacturing for years to come.

“So to all the workers in Michigan and across the United States: thank you. Thank you for all of your hard work that you do to support our communities and our country. I’ll always fight for you and for good-paying manufacturing jobs in our state.”
