LANSING, Mich. – University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Forensic Pathology Services has released its Q1 report on drug-related deaths in the seven counties (Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Ionia, Isabella, Livingston, and Shiawassee) in which UM Health-Sparrow serves as medical examiner.

The report found that, excluding Clinton and Livingston counties, the overall number of drug-related deaths from Jan. 1 to March 30, 2024, was the lowest for the same period since 2019. However, drug-related deaths during Q1 were slightly higher than in the last quarter of last year.

The Office of the Medical Examiner provides detail on each drug death and the type of drug involved. The report and other forensic pathology findings can be found at UofMHealthSparrow.org/OMEReports. When you get to the page, click on “2024 Q1 Drug Report.”

UM Health-Sparrow is nationally accredited by the National Association of Medical Examiners to perform autopsies, postmortem examinations and on-scene forensic death investigations as an important part of the investigation process.
