Traverse City, Mich. — Traverse City Tourism is enthusiastic about the $50 million Pure Michigan budget proposed Thursday by the Michigan House Appropriations Committee.
Traverse City Tourism President, Trevor Tkach (Tah-kosh) (left) applauded the proposed increase. "The communities and businesses around Michigan will greatly benefit from the investment. We are grateful to Committee Chairman Will Snyder for his leadership in prioritizing this vital program."
“Studies show for every dollar spent to support the Pure Michigan campaign, it brings in over $9 in state tax revenue.” Tkach notes there are nearly 9,000 hospitality jobs in the greater Grand Traverse region, with direct visitor spending over $1 billion. According to the Michigan Travel Commission, the statewide impact of Pure Michigan is over $48 billion and over 324,000 jobs supported.
“The House budget proposal recognizes that Michigan faces stiff competition for the travel dollar and our neighboring states are increasing their travel marketing budgets,” Tkach added. “With our amazing outdoor recreation, festivals, events, arts, culture and diverse urban experiences, Michigan has everything to offer. We need to make sure the state stays top-of-mind when visitors are planning business and leisure travel.”
Traverse City Tourism maximizes its partnership with the Pure Michigan campaign to help reach a national and international audience through co-op marketing, outreach, trade shows and coordinated media visits.
