With complex and integrated supply chains, bad cyber actors are increasingly going after smaller targets in a large company’s supply chain.

LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased by two-tenths of a percentage point to 3.9 percent between August and September, according to data released today by the Department of Technology, Management & Budget. Total employment rose by 13,000 and unemployment advanced by 9,000 over the month. Michigan’s workforce rose by 23,000 during September.

Whitmer declared October as Cybersecurity Awareness Month in Michigan, encouraging Michigan residents and employers to assess current safety practices and procedures and make enhancements where necessary. Fortunately for small business owners, the Small Business Association of Michigan (SBAM) has launched a new service to provide members easy access to cyber liability insurance, after cyber risks and access to cyber resources continue to rank among small business members’ top concerns.

The 2023 Michigan Cyber Summit, will be held at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Mich. , Wednesday, Oct. 18. The event, in its 12th year, will feature cybersecurity speakers, experts, and dignitaries from across the country, including Michigan Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II; Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget Director Michelle Lange; Michigan Chief Information Officer Laura Clark; Michigan Chief Security Officer Jayson Cavendish; Federal Chief Information Security Officer and Deputy National Cyber Director for Federal Cybersecurity Chris DeRusha; and more.
