WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Senate has passed bipartisan legislation authored by U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI), Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, directing the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to create a plan for the agency to effectively manage its workforce so that they are well-equipped to help communities deal with natural disasters. FEMA has faced challenges deploying staff with the proper training and skills needed to best address different natural disasters across the country.

LANSING, Mich. – Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate advanced by two-tenths of a percentage point over the month to 4.8 percent during November, according to data released today by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget. Employment fell by 7,000 over the month, while unemployment rose by 9,000, resulting in a workforce gain of 2,000 since October.

As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Peters led and supported provisions to invest in Michigan’s military facilities, advance PFAS removal efforts, give servicemembers a pay raise, and combat aggression by U.S. foreign adversaries like the Chinese and Russian governments.
