New Community Transformation Fund hires Harvard grad Ollie Howie after national search 

(GRAND RAPIDS, MI) – New Community Transformation Fund (NCTF), a Grand Rapids-based venture fund aimed at boosting businesses owned by people of color in West Michigan, announces it has hired Ollie Howie to become the fund’s first managing director. He comes to Grand Rapids after deploying over $50 million into the venture ecosystem through this career. Most recently he was investing in a SoftBank venture fund dedicated to building and supporting a community of outstanding Black, Latinx and Native American founders.

Lansing, Mich. – Five organizations will be honored for their commitment to the Lansing region at the 16^th annual Celebration of Regional Growth (CORG) Awards, taking place Tuesday, Nov. 9 at the Kellogg Center Hotel and Conference Center in Lansing. This year’s CORG honorees include Allen Neighborhood Center, Bekum America, High Caliber Karting and Entertainment, Lansing Board of Water and Light and McLaren Greater Lansing. All five organizations are recognized for investments that are making a transformational impact in the community.

Tobi Lyon, founder and CEO of Ngage Management, has been selected as the 2022 ATHENA PowerLink  (APL) recipient by the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce (LRCC). APL is a national mentoring program that connects chosen women business owners with a skilled advisory panel. The specified panel of advisors will donate an estimated $25,000 value of business consultation services to help the business achieve the next level of success.

TechSmith Executive to Be Honored Dec. 2 at ATHENA Awards Luncheon 

Lansing, MI – Michelle Massey, vice president of community outreach and customer support at TechSmith, will be recognized on Dec. 2 as the recipient of the 2021 ATHENA Leadership Award. Massey will be honored by the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce (LRCC) at the annual ATHENA Awards luncheon, taking place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Michigan State University Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center in East Lansing.

WASHINGTON— U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) today introduced a bipartisan bill to support teenagers and young adults in the foster care system during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Continued State Flexibility to Assist Older Foster Youth Act will help these young adults pay for college or job training programs, in addition to housing, driving, and transportation costs.
