Legislation will Raise Awareness about Foreign Efforts to Influence U.S. Political Process

DETROIT, MI – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI), Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, reintroduced legislation to increase transparency around foreign lobbying, shine a light on efforts by foreign adversaries to influence our public policy, and ensure the government is working in the best interest of the nation. The bill closes a loophole in the Lobbying Disclosure Act that foreign adversaries – including the Chinese government – frequently exploit to conceal their roles in lobbying efforts. Peters introduced similar legislation that passed the Senate last Congress.

Report Was Required by Peters’ Law to Help Protect K-12 School Systems

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tuesday, U.S. Senator Gary Peters (D-MI), Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released the following statement applauding the first comprehensive report by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on how K-12 schools can improve their cybersecurity defenses. The report was required by a bipartisan law written by Peters to enhance cybersecurity assistance to K-12 educational institutions across the country:

Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Monday observed critical winter training capabilities at Camp Grayling – a key part of the National All-Domain Warfighting Center. As part of the Michigan National Guard’s winter iteration of the Northern Strike annual exercise program, Peters viewed National Guard troops conducting live-fire exercises, executing urban training missions, and learning to operate in cold-weather environments.

DETROIT, MI – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI), Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, highlighted the 19 bills he authored, passed, and were signed into law over the past two years, which will help strengthen our national security and cybersecurity, address PFAS contamination, and make the federal government more efficient and save taxpayers’ money. Peters’ 19 bills passed and signed into law during the 117^th Congress (2021-2022) are the most of any Senator in more than 40 years, according to the Congressional Research Service and the Senate Historical Office.
