Connected Vehicle Technology Improves Roadway Safety & Efficiency; Will Help Ensure U.S. Does Not Fall Behind Other Countries 

WASHINGTON, DC – Following a bipartisan call from U.S. Senators Gary Peters (D-MI), Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Surface Transportation, Maritime, Freight and Ports, and Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has approved the deployment of Cellular Vehicle to Everything (C-V2X) technology. C-V2X is an intelligent transportation system (ITS) technology that enables data sharing between vehicles, the infrastructure they operate on, and nearby road users – improving roadway safety and efficiency. In February, Peters and Lummis called on the FCC to accelerate the approval of C-V2X waivers, some of which have now been granted, in order to jumpstart the deployment of this lifesaving mobility safety technology and ensure the U.S. does not fall behind other countries in its development and adoption.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (D-MI), Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, convened a hearing with the Comptroller General of the United States, Gene L. Dodaro, to examine the nonpartisan U.S. Government Accountability Office’s (GAO) 2023 High-Risk List – a biennial report that identifies federal programs that are vulnerable to waste, fraud, abuse. During the hearing, Peters emphasized the important role that GAO plays in helping Congress ensure a more effective and efficient government.

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Thursday, Mecosta County officials released statements celebrating final state approval for a transformational investment by the global battery company Gotion, which has chosen to build a new electric vehicle battery component manufacturing facility in Mecosta County.

WASHINGTON, DC – Bipartisan legislation authored by U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI), Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, to extend federal programs that help support local fire departments across the country has passed the Senate. The bill would reauthorize the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant program, the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program, and the United States Fire Administration (USFA).
