The Strong Dollar Is Supporting Imports

• The U.S. goods and services trade deficit increased in April both on the month and over the past year. 

• Both exports and imports increased on the month.

The Labor Market Remains Strong but Better-Balanced.

• Initial claims for unemployment insurance rose by 8,000 to 229,000 in the week ending June 1, but the four week moving average fell by 1,000 to 222,000. 

• Continuing claims rose by 2,000 to 1.792 million in the week ending May 25, and the four-week moving average rose by 3,000 to 1.789 million.

LANSING – The Michigan Community Service Commission today announced that Michigan has received $18 million in AmeriCorps funding to support the work of over 1,100 AmeriCorps members as they tackle some of the state’s toughest challenges, including disaster services, economic opportunity, education, environmental stewardship, education, health and public safety.
