ANN ARBOR, Mich. – University of Michigan Health will build a new 45,000-square foot health care center near Grand Ledge, after Thursday’s approval of the $32-million project by the U-M Board of Regents.

 

University of Michigan Health-Sparrow will operate the new health care center, located at 5677 E. Saginaw Highway in Oneida Township. The site is a former CARite car dealership.

 

The new building is expected to open in winter 2027 and will house services including urgent care, laboratory and retail pharmacy, primary care, specialty care and advanced imaging services. The urgent care and pharmacy services will be relocated from existing locations that are rented.

 

“We want to meet the growing patient care needs of the Grand Ledge community. This facility -- and the wonderful caregivers who will work there -- will bring U-M Health’s clinical expertise to this growing area,” said Margaret Dimond, Ph.D., president of U-M Health’s regional network.

 

“We have heard the call from this region about the desire for more patient care. We are excited to expand and increase access to the people in this neighborhood in a beautiful, new state-of-the-art facility.”

 

The facility design will emphasize environmental sustainability principles with an expectation of reaching Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.

 

In May, the Regents approved a purchase price of $1,995,000 for the property. Funding for new construction will be provided by UM Health-Sparrow resources.

“We want U-M Health to be readily available in the communities where our patients live. This new facility will help us do that in the growing Grand Ledge region.”
