Sparrow is once again reshaping healthcare in Mid-Michigan with the opening of a major new development, the region’s first freestanding Emergency Department. In a medical emergency, minutes can mean life or death. That’s why freestanding Emergency Departments are rapidly growing throughout the country. Freestanding Emergency Departments are structurally separate and distinct from a hospital but provide emergency care and access to the community, without having to go miles from home.

It can lead to shorter wait times for care. The new Sparrow Emergency Center Okemos is among the few freestanding Emergency Departments in Michigan outside of the Detroit area. The site also contains a new primary care practice. That ribbon-cutting and dedication have been held today before opening to the public Tuesday, September 13, 2022.
The new Sparrow Emergency Center Okemos is located at 2446 Jolly Road, Okemos. The construction of this 30,456 square foot medical office building, parking lot, and driveways connecting to Jolly Road and Kansas Street. The project began with existing buildings and parking needing to be demolished to construct this project. The developer proposed one single building with general medical offices and a freestanding emergency room.
